This report comes from Jeff Rudolph:
On September 1, 2016, at 9:30 AM, a structure fire was reported at 549 Indian Trail in Round Lake Park, Illinois. Fire crews from Round Lake and Grayslake arrived on the scene to find a one-story home fully involved in flames. Command immediately upgraded the response to a box alarm. While the main fire was quickly knocked down, the flames had already spread into the attic space. Initial efforts to access the fire from below proved difficult due to the unique construction — the pitched roof had been built over an existing flat roof. As a result, firefighters had to approach from above to fully extinguish the fire.
The incident quickly turned defensive as Libertyville’s ladder truck was brought in to help knock down the remaining flames. One resident was taken for a medical evaluation as a precaution. The State Fire Marshal's office was contacted to bring in a K9 unit to check for accelerants, as the homeowner claimed the fire was intentionally set by someone else.
