This report comes from Jeff Rudolph:
On September 1, 2016 at 9:30 AM, a structure fire was reported at 549 Indian Trail in Round Lake Park, Illinois. Fire crews from Round Lake and Grayslake arrived on scene to find a one-story home well involved in flames. Command immediately upgraded the incident to a box alarm. The main fire was quickly brought under control, but the flames had already spread into the attic space. Initial attempts to access the fire from below proved difficult due to the unique construction of the roof—what appeared to be a pitched roof was actually built over an existing flat roof. As a result, firefighters had to work from above to fully extinguish the fire.
The situation soon turned defensive, with Libertyville’s aerial ladder unit stepping in to knock down the remaining flames. One resident was taken to the hospital for a routine check-up. Authorities contacted the State Fire Marshal’s office to bring in a K9 unit to search for potential accelerants, as the homeowner claimed the fire was intentionally set by someone else.
