Product development is getting a cloud-powered shot in the arm with AnyCAD in Fusion 360

Experience the best of cloud and desktop with AnyCAD technology in the Autodesk Product Design & Manufacturing Collection

The AnyCAD preview in Fusion 360 lets users keep full associativity with Inventor and Solidworks data. More file formats, including Creo, NX, and non-native options like IGES and STEP, will be supported soon.

This past August, we made a big move by boosting the value of the Autodesk Product Design & Manufacturing Collection. We added Nastran non-linear simulation and 5-Axis CAM to Inventor at no extra cost. This made the Collection a powerful platform for every stage of product development—from concept and design to engineering, simulation, and finally CAM and fabrication.

Now, we're pushing even further by bringing AnyCAD to Fusion 360, unlocking a new level of interoperability across the entire Product Design & Manufacturing Collection. As a bonus, we're also introducing a preview of our new Nesting Utility, helping Collection subscribers make the most out of their manufacturing materials.

If you've ever tried using an off-brand coffee pod in a Keurig, you know how some companies limit choice to boost profits. The same has often been true of CAD software, with proprietary file formats that make it hard—or even impossible—to share data between programs without costly translation.

Autodesk is changing that with AnyCAD. Since 2015, AnyCAD has been part of Autodesk Inventor, making it easier than ever to integrate any CAD data into designs—without needing to translate files. This allowed seamless collaboration between Inventor and other systems, letting designers focus on innovation instead of data conversion.

Now, AnyCAD is available in Fusion 360, enabling full interoperability with Inventor and the rest of the Product Design & Manufacturing Collection. Data can now flow both ways, so users can take advantage of Inventor's power while working in the cloud-based Fusion 360 environment. Whether you prefer desktop, cloud, or browser-based tools, you'll always have the right solution at the right time during your product development process.

"Everyone benefits from this update," said Stephen Hooper, Senior Director of Business Strategy and Marketing at Autodesk. "AnyCAD in the Product Design Collection puts your data at the center of a connected ecosystem. It gives you access to the advanced tools and technologies you need to embrace the future of making things."

We understand that many of our customers use other software too, so AnyCAD allows you to bring SolidWorks data into Inventor and Fusion 360 while keeping full associativity. And while Inventor already supports major file types like Siemens NX and PTC Creo, these will soon be available in Fusion 360 as well. So, what’s stopping you from subscribing?

Another exciting addition to the Collection is the preview of the Autodesk Nesting Utility, which helps manufacturers optimize material usage for parts made from sheet metal, plastics, composites, wood, and more. Like previous integrations such as Nastran and HSM, this tool will work directly within the Inventor interface. This new feature is another example of how we’re continuously adding value and improving workflows in the Product Design & Manufacturing Collection—at no extra cost.
