**1 - CHIEF PAUL BOECKER - RIP**

Many of you may recognize the name Chief Paul Boecker—a towering figure known for his love of cigars and a lifetime of dedication both locally and nationally. Whether it was through the IAFC, ISFSI, IFSI, NFPA, or countless other organizations, Chief Boecker made a lasting impact. Below is a heartfelt tribute written by Janet from Fire Chief Magazine.

When I heard the news this morning, it felt surreal. My chief is fading away, surrounded by machines that can no longer sustain him. After suffering a devastating fall that led to a severe brain hemorrhage, his body is giving up, though his legacy will live on forever.
Standing by his bedside, watching his labored breaths, I couldn’t help but reflect on how our paths first crossed. It was at the Lisle (Ill.) Volunteer Fire Department station, shortly after he moved over from Naperville. At the time, he wasn’t even supposed to be there; Lisle had only hired its second full-time fire chief ever, replacing someone who barely lasted six months. To say the two towns were rivals would be an understatement. Back then, Boecker joked that Lisle was a “Mickey Mouse department.†Yet, here he was now, not just leading them but transforming them into something extraordinary.
