Des Plaines FD news (more)

From the MABAS Illinois Facebook page:

We are deeply saddened to share this update:

Firefighter/Paramedic Paul Miller is still on life support, and it has been confirmed that his recovery is no longer possible. In accordance with Paul’s wishes, his family has made the difficult decision to remove life support. This was not an easy choice, but one made out of love and respect for Paul’s values.

Paul was known for his generosity and kindness, and in keeping with his expressed desires, several of his organs will be donated. His gift of life will continue to help others, carrying forward his spirit of compassion. The donation process may take between 36 to 72 hours, as it involves careful coordination with medical teams and recipients.

On Tuesday, April 23rd at 4:00 PM, a special flag ceremony will take place at the main hospital flagpole of Advocate Condell Medical Center, located at 801 S. Milwaukee Ave in Libertyville. A “Gift of Hope” flag will be raised in honor of Paul’s generous act of organ donation. The ceremony, led by Chaplain David Haley from the Des Plaines Fire Department, will be open to all available personnel.

Please note that the organ donation process is dynamic and can vary depending on match testing, recipient notifications, and other logistical factors. While it typically takes more than 24 hours, exact timelines are still being finalized. We will provide further updates as more information becomes available.

From the Des Plaines Professional Firefighters Association IAFF Local 4211:

Today, we ask that you continue to keep Paul and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly challenging time. He was more than just a firefighter — he was a friend, a hero, and a true member of our fire service family. His legacy will live on through the lives he helped save.
