As I scroll through the latest updates on my screen, it's hard not to notice how rapidly the world is transforming. The dual pressures of climate change and growing inequality are escalating at an alarming pace, reshaping everything from economies to social structures. Just when we thought we were navigating one crisis after another, a global pandemic swept across the globe, bringing industries to a standstill and testing the very fabric of our societal frameworks. Protests and civil unrest have only underscored the deep-seated issues of racial injustice and systemic inequities that persist within our societies.
It's becoming increasingly clear that as we step into this new decade, reaffirming our dedication to fostering a sustainable, resilient, and equitable future has never been more crucial. In our annual Sustainability Report, our CEO Andrew Anagnost reflects on this pivotal moment, stating, “The challenges we face—a global pandemic, a warming planet, rising inequality, and political instability—are testing the resilience of businesses, nations, ecosystems, and our global community. Our journey towards environmental responsibility is far from over. In 2019, we achieved a significant milestone by reaching the science-based greenhouse gas reduction targets we set over a decade ago. Thanks to enhanced operational efficiencies, powering our offices and cloud services entirely with renewable energy, and purchasing Gold Standard carbon offsets for business travel and large-scale events, our carbon footprint has decreased by 43%. Moving forward, we’re committed to making our entire business climate-neutral starting this fiscal year. In addition, we've actively engaged with policymakers at the UN Climate Change Conference, COP25, to advocate for bolder climate policies and create an environment conducive to low-carbon innovation.
On the frontlines of diversity and inclusion, we're steadfastly working to build a more resilient, diverse, and equitable culture at Autodesk. Recently, our CEO distributed stock grants to every employee, reinforcing their ownership stake in the company.
