Since 2008, Tianjin has significantly accelerated the development of a 1 million tons/year ethylene project along with its supporting facilities. On January 5th, Tianjin Petrochemical officially commenced construction on a major 10 million tons/year ethylene complex, which includes a 10 million tons/year atmospheric and vacuum distillation unit. Just three days later, on January 8th, the construction of two key production plants was also initiated: a 450,000-ton/year polypropylene plant and a 300,000-ton/year linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) plant. The 10 million tons/year atmospheric and vacuum distillation unit incorporates several advanced technologies that significantly enhance energy efficiency compared to similar domestic units. This improvement not only reduces energy consumption but also improves the quality of refined products. According to the project timeline, this facility is expected to be completed by March 2009, marking a major milestone in Tianjin’s industrial growth. The polypropylene plant uses cutting-edge technology developed globally, making it one of the largest single-line production facilities in the world and the biggest in China. Meanwhile, the LLDPE plant is the first large-scale polyethylene facility built using Sinopec's proprietary technology, incorporating multiple innovative and patented techniques. In parallel, the basic design phase of the entire project has been fully underway. After the overall design proposal for the ethylene project received approval from the headquarters, Tianjin Petrochemical intensified its collaboration with relevant departments and design teams. The company made significant organizational adjustments, enhancing both material supply and design capabilities. The number of personnel in the design department increased from 18 to 89, ensuring a solid foundation for accelerating the project's progress. Currently, the basic design for all 19 new and upgraded installations within the refinery project has been reviewed and approved by the headquarters. Among the eight new ethylene installations, seven have already passed the basic design review and received final approval. Additionally, the thermal power project and the railway expansion and reconstruction project have also completed their basic design reviews and are now approved, signaling continued momentum in the project's development.
