On December 26, 2017, just before noon, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District (LRFPD) and neighboring fire departments responded to a house fire at 1505 Garden Court in unincorporated Lake County. Firefighters reported seeing a large plume of smoke rising into the sky long before they arrived on the scene. Upon arrival, LRFPD Battalion 51 observed flames bursting from both the garage and attic, prompting an immediate upgrade to a working fire.
The home appeared to be unoccupied at the time and was reportedly under renovation. However, firefighters faced challenges when they discovered the first hydrant was inoperable. To maintain a continuous water supply, Buffalo Grove Engine 26 deployed a large line from the end of the block. Meanwhile, Wheeling Tower 24 was positioned in front of the house to assist with the operation.
An interior attack successfully knocked down the fire on the second floor and attic, while other crews worked to control flames in the garage. The incident was upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm, bringing additional units to the scene. A wide array of fire companies were present, including LRFPD’s Battalion 51, Squad 51, Ambulance 51, Engine 53, and more; Wheeling FD with Engine 42 and Tower 24; Buffalo Grove Engine 26; Mt Prospect Ambulance 14; Northbrook Engine 10; Prospect Heights Tower 9; Des Plaines Engine 61; Highland Park Engine 34; Deerfield-Bannockburn Squad 19 and 2001; Gurnee Squad 1352; Wauconda Tower 341; and chief officers from Libertyville and Countryside.
Several photos captured the intensity of the fire, showing heavy smoke, flames, and the inoperable hydrant near the structure. More images can be viewed at Shapirophotography.net.
