It features an internal audio power amplifier that supports mono ceramic speaker applications. The chip operates on a 3.2V DC supply and can deliver up to 15V peak-to-peak voltage for bridged loads (BTL) with minimal distortion. Its performance ensures that total harmonic distortion and noise (THD+N) remains below 1%, delivering clear and high-quality sound output. Additionally, the LM4962 includes overcurrent and overvoltage protection mechanisms to safeguard the boost converter from potential damage. A soft-start function in the internal DC/DC converter helps prevent voltage spikes during startup, ensuring stable operation. The LM4953 is another audio amplifier designed specifically for ceramic speakers, utilizing a charge pump to efficiently drive the load. Encased in a 3mm x 4mm package, the LM4953 combines an audio amplifier with a charge pump, allowing it to boost a 3.6V supply to as high as 12.6V peak-to-peak for a 2µF + 30W bridge load. Like the LM4962, it maintains low THD+N levels, ensuring clean audio performance. Both devices offer a low-power shutdown mode, which helps conserve energy when not in use. They also include internal thermal shutdown protection to prevent overheating under heavy load conditions. Notably, neither chip requires a startup capacitor or a transient voltage suppression circuit, simplifying the overall design. Additionally, they feature a “switch/supply” noise suppression circuit that minimizes unwanted interference. Their unity gain is highly stable, and they allow for external gain adjustment via a resistor, giving designers greater flexibility in tailoring the output to specific applications.
