On December 26, 2017, just before noon, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District (LRFPD) and neighboring fire departments responded to a house fire at 1505 Garden Court in unincorporated Lake County. Upon arrival, firefighters reported seeing a large plume of smoke rising into the sky long before they reached the scene. LRFPD Battalion 51 arrived first and observed flames coming from both the garage and the attic, prompting them to request a working fire upgrade.
The home appeared to be unoccupied at the time and was under renovation. Unfortunately, the nearest fire hydrant was inoperable, forcing units to pull water lines from LRFPD Squad 51. Buffalo Grove Engine 26 extended a large line across the block to establish a continuous water supply. Wheeling Tower 24 was positioned in front of the house to assist with the operation.
Firefighters conducted an interior attack on the second floor and attic, successfully knocking down the fire in those areas. Meanwhile, other crews worked to contain the blaze in the garage. The incident was escalated to a MABAS Box Alarm, bringing additional resources to the scene.
A wide range of fire departments were involved, including LRFPD’s Battalion 51, Squad 51, Ambulance 51, Battalion 52, Ambulance 52, Engine 53, 5101, and 5100; Wheeling Tower 24, Engine 42, Ambulance 24, Battalion 24, and 2401; Buffalo Grove Engine 26 and Ambulance 26; Mt Prospect Ambulance 14; Northbrook Engine 10; Prospect Heights Tower 9, Des Plaines Engine 61; Highland Park Engine 34 and Squad 33; Deerfield-Bannockburn Squad 19 and 2001; Gurnee Squad 1352; Wauconda Tower 341; and chief officers from Libertyville and Countryside.
