Jeff Rudolph captured the aftermath of a semi-truck collision in Lake Bluff yesterday. The incident occurred around noon on northbound Route 41, just north of Illinois Route 176. Two fast-moving semis were involved in the crash. The first managed to pass a slower semi that was stuck behind a turning dump truck, but the second one didn’t see the slow-moving vehicle in time and struck the left rear of the semi. One driver became pinned inside the cab and required significant rescue efforts.
Emergency services from Lake Bluff, Knollwood, and Lake Forest were dispatched, along with a unit from North Chicago and Great Lakes Fire Department. A fire engine and a specialized truck were sent from North Chicago, while Libertyville firefighters also arrived at the scene. The injured driver was taken to Lake Forest Hospital, while the other driver was unharmed.
Jeff Rudolph’s photos show the aftermath of the crash. One image captures an overview of the trucks on the highway after the driver was removed. Another shows the Lake Forest ambulance transporting the injured driver to the hospital. Additional photos highlight the damage to the truck’s cab, as well as firefighters working for nearly an hour to free the trapped driver. Several tow trucks from Ernie's Wrecker Service were on the scene, including a heavy wrecker positioned near the wreckage. A brush unit from the Lake Bluff Fire Department was also seen assisting with the response. The images provide a clear view of the severity of the accident and the coordinated efforts of emergency personnel.
