Local apparatus updates

Dennis McGuire, Jr. recently discovered two active rigs being built at Ferrara Fire Apparatus, and you can view them here. One of the units is destined for the Calumet Park Fire Department, part of MABAS 22. This will be their first-ever 100-foot tower ladder, built on an HME chassis. The new apparatus will replace both a ladder truck and a pumper, which have already been traded in. The unit is currently under construction and represents a major upgrade for the department. A photo from Ferrara Fire Apparatus shows the 100-foot tower ladder being assembled on the HME chassis. It's a significant development for Calumet Park, as this is the first time they're acquiring such a large tower ladder. The second rig is a pumper for the Huntley Fire Department, serving both MABAS 2 and MABAS 5. They’ve ordered a top-mount pumper on a Ferrara Ember chassis, equipped with a 1,500-GPM pump and 750 gallons of water. The unit is currently undergoing pump tests at Ferrara, and it’s expected to enhance the department’s response capabilities significantly. Fire Service, Inc., the local dealer representing Wheeled Coach Ambulances, has shared photos of several recent deliveries. In Berwyn, two new ambulances were delivered, marking an important update for the department’s emergency services. In Melrose Park, Ambulance 701 received a brand-new unit, improving their ability to respond to medical emergencies. Summit Fire Department also got a new Type I ambulance, which was recently delivered and is now in service. Oak Lawn Fire Department took delivery of a new ambulance for Ambulance 1 last year, and more recently, they added another unit for Ambulance 2. These upgrades are helping to modernize the region’s emergency response infrastructure. Thanks to Martin Nowak for bringing attention to these new Wheeled Coach units. It’s great to see local departments investing in new equipment to better serve their communities.

    Cooling Roller

    Wool Roller

The role of rollers in the nonwoven production process mainly includes the following aspects:

‌Loosening and carding‌: Through its special structure and covered card clothing, the roller can continuously and preliminarily heat the small pieces and bundles of fibers to loosen and card them into single fibers. This process helps reduce fiber damage and the production of lint or neps.

Removal of impurities‌: During the carding process, the role of the rollers also includes the removal of impurities in the fibers, such as grass, knots, etc. With special card clothing and appropriate roller spacing, the rollers can effectively separate and remove these impurities‌.

‌Mixing effect‌: During the repeated loosening and carding process of the carding machine, the positions between fibers continue to change, allowing fibers of different lengths, fineness and properties to be evenly distributed in the top, thereby improving the mixing effect of the fibers‌.

‌Strips, yarns or webs‌: Carded fibers can be formed into a wool web composed of countless single fibers through the action of rollers, or polymerized into tops, or directly divided and twisted into rovings for subsequent processes.‌
