Fujitsu's first DWDM commercial 10Gb XFP optical transceiver comes out

Fujitsu and Fujitsu Laboratories have unveiled the world's first commercial 10Gb small form factor pluggable (XFP) optical transceiver designed for Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM). This groundbreaking product enables the development of compact, high-speed DWDM optical transmission systems that are not only smaller in size but also more cost-effective. The transceiver is scheduled to be available on the market in March 2006. According to industry reports, miniaturizing optical transceivers has always been a major challenge, especially when it comes to meeting the strict standards of DFP-compliant XFP modules. Fujitsu and its research division have successfully overcome these obstacles by introducing innovative compact transceiver circuits, low-power optical components, and advanced heat sink designs. Additionally, they have implemented high-frequency and high-density assembly technologies to ensure optimal performance in a reduced form factor. Thanks to these technological advancements, Fujitsu’s new optical transceivers are fully compatible with existing optical devices and offer the same level of performance as traditional XFP transceivers. They can be directly plugged into current systems without requiring any modifications, making them an ideal upgrade for network operators looking to enhance their infrastructure. Fujitsu plans to offer a comprehensive range of 10Gbps optical transceivers, supporting transmission distances ranging from 2km up to 80km. This versatility makes the product suitable for a wide variety of applications, including long-haul and metropolitan networks. This development marks a significant milestone in optical communication technology, demonstrating Fujitsu's commitment to innovation and leadership in the field of high-speed data transmission.
