This month, Autodesk joined over a hundred companies in signing the EU AI Pact, an initiative led by the European Commission aimed at promoting trustworthy and safe AI development. The event took place in Brussels on September 25, where Clémence Arto, director of EMEA Government Affairs and Public Policy at Autodesk, along with Anthony Ruto, senior director of Research Engineering, had the chance to connect with other signatories and EU officials. They committed to implementing the principles of the upcoming EU AI Act before it becomes officially enforceable.
Autodesk has been at the forefront of AI investment for more than a decade, focusing on enhancing creative problem-solving, automating mundane tasks, and providing analytical tools to aid decision-making processes. Our efforts have always centered around embedding integrity and trust into our AI solutions, and joining the AI Pact marks another significant milestone in this mission.
The AI Act, which was established in August 2024, will roll out over the next three years, setting clear guidelines and obligations for AI developers and users. It seeks to ensure AI systems are reliable and ethical both within Europe and globally. By signing the EU AI Pact, companies agree to adopt AI governance strategies, identify high-risk AI systems, and promote AI literacy internally. These actions align with Autodesk's ongoing commitment to fostering ethical and responsible AI practices.
At the signing ceremony in Brussels, participants included representatives from various industries who shared a common vision of advancing trustworthy AI. The gathering also highlighted the growing global consensus on regulating AI to prevent misuse while maximizing its potential benefits.
In addition to signing the pact, Autodesk participates in multiple projects dedicated to establishing trusted AI across sectors. For instance, we collaborate with the US AI Safety Institute Consortium (AISIC), managed by NIST, and contribute to the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI).
As Mike Haley, senior vice president of Research at Autodesk, noted, "AI is reshaping how we interact with technology." He expressed pride in the EU's leadership role in guiding AI's growth toward positive societal impacts. "We're leveraging AI's transformative power to improve lives worldwide."
Looking ahead, we anticipate sharing our advancements, gaining insights from peers, and continuing to set standards in deploying trusted AI technologies. This collaboration aims to introduce innovative approaches to design and manufacturing processes.
