Antioch buys 2nd used ambulance

The Lake County News Sun recently published an article discussing the Antioch Fire Department’s recent acquisition of a used ambulance from the Town of Paris. This purchase is part of a broader strategy to reduce costs and increase long-term savings as the village evaluates its emergency medical services (EMS) contract with Superior Air-Ground Ambulance Services. With the current contract set to expire on November 30, the village is considering whether to renew or explore other options. The existing agreement with Superior involves a turn-key operation, including two fully equipped ambulances staffed by two state-certified paramedics around the clock at each of the village’s fire stations. However, leasing these vehicles costs the village $53,000 annually per ambulance. Fire Chief John Nixon emphasized that purchasing a used ambulance offers a more cost-effective solution. The department recently bought a 2000 International ambulance with just 22,000 miles on the odometer for $20,000. Equipping it would bring the total cost to approximately $35,000, a one-time expense that could lead to significant savings over time. Nixon hopes to eventually eliminate the need for leasing by acquiring more used ambulances in the future. In addition to this recent purchase, the village already owns another used ambulance donated by the state Foreign Fire Insurance Tax Board in June. That vehicle was purchased from Winnetka and has 55,000 miles on it. These donations are part of a state law requiring funds from out-of-state fire insurance companies to benefit local fire departments. Nixon mentioned that the goal is to replace leased ambulances with owned ones, starting with one ambulance for the next contract year and then a second the following year. Before the new ambulance can be used, it must pass inspection by the Illinois Department of Public Health. While the department is not yet ready to hire full-time firefighter-paramedics to replace the outside contractor, Nixon is working toward shifting the EMS contract from a labor-and-equipment model to a labor-only model. This change would help reduce overall costs while maintaining high-quality service. The Antioch Fire Department also received two donated Lifepak monitors/defibrillators from the local Antioch Firefighters Association, which will be used in the ambulances. A brand-new ambulance typically costs around $220,000, so the use of capital funds for this purchase makes sense financially. Currently, Superior responds to emergency calls within the village, while Antioch Rescue Squad (ARS) serves the unincorporated areas of Antioch Township under a separate contract. The fire department is jointly overseen and funded by the village and the First Fire District, but each entity manages its own EMS contracts. The final decision on how to integrate fire and paramedic services may depend on whether the village and the First Fire District move forward with a proposed consolidation. Until then, the focus remains on managing costs and ensuring reliable emergency care for residents. Thanks, Ron.

Hot Melt Adhesive For Express Bag

Express bag sealing with hot melt adhesive, generally used for the sealing of various express bags, some people will feel that the bonding strength is not enough when using, resulting in the opening of the express bag in the middle of the situation. The hot melt adhesive material used to seal the express bag has been fixed. If you want to improve its bonding strength, it can be achieved by the following methods:

1, improve the surface roughness of the sticky object

When the hot melt adhesive is well infiltrated on the surface of the bonded material, the roughness of the surface is conducive to improving the infiltration degree of the hot melt adhesive on the surface, increasing the contact point density between the hot melt adhesive and the bonded material, and thus improving the bonding strength.

    2. Penetration

The bonded joint, by the role of the environmental atmosphere, is often penetrated into some other low molecules, for example: the joint in a humid environment, the polymer adhesive layer in the machine solvent, the solvent molecules penetrate into the polymer, the penetration of low molecules first deforms the adhesive layer, and then enters the interface between the adhesive layer and the adhesive, so that the strength of the adhesive layer is reduced, resulting in bonding damage.

    3. Migration

Due to the poor compatibility of these small molecules with polymer macromolecules, they are easy to migrate from the polymer surface or interface, and the small molecules that migrate out will hinder the hot melt adhesive and the adhesive material if they gather at the interface.

    4. Apply pressure to the bonding surface

When bonding, pressure is applied to the bonding surface, so that the hot melt adhesive is more easily filled with pits on the surface of the bonded body, and even flows into deep holes and capillaries, reducing the gas overflow on the surface of the bonded body and reducing the porosity in the bonding area.

    5. Thickness of rubber layer

The thicker adhesive layer is easy to produce bubbles, defects and early fracture, so the adhesive layer should be as thin as possible to obtain higher bonding strength, in addition, the thermal stress caused by the thermal expansion of the thick adhesive layer after heating in the interface area is also relatively large, which is more likely to cause joint damage.
