"Made in China" cannot be underestimated

In recent years, there has been a growing demand for accelerating the development of "Creating in China." The reason behind this is that for many years, China has heavily relied on imported equipment technologies. Once these technologies are introduced, they are often used as-is without much thought into how to adapt or internalize them. When components need replacement, companies frequently have to rely on foreign manufacturers, spending valuable foreign exchange. This creates a cycle of importing, using, re-importing, and reusing—without real innovation or progress. Companies rarely focus on absorbing and improving upon new technologies, which leads to long-term dependency on foreign entities. Hence, the call for "Creating in China" emerged. However, the author believes that this goal is closely tied to the level of "Made in China." Only by elevating the quality of Chinese manufacturing can true innovation be achieved. Both aspects are essential and interdependent. The significance of "Creating in China" is clear, but so is the importance of "Made in China." They go hand in hand. According to the author's perspective, at present, the key challenge in China's manufacturing sector lies in improving the overall production standards. During visits to some chemical companies, whether the equipment was imported or domestically made, the gap was evident in the manufacturing process itself—particularly in design philosophy, workflow, and technical execution. It’s safe to say that no matter how advanced the design or creative ideas may be, without world-class manufacturing capabilities, high-quality equipment cannot be produced. In fact, the process of enhancing manufacturing standards is also a path toward building creative capacity. Without top-tier manufacturing, it’s impossible to achieve top-tier innovation. Recently, during an interview with a heavy machinery company in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu Province, the author learned that this privately-owned firm had independently developed the largest 12,000-ton hydraulic press in Asia. After nearly a year of R&D, the company not only achieved "Creation in China" but also successfully completed "Made in China." They explained that their creation meant overcoming foreign technology barriers and achieving real breakthroughs. Their success came from applying high-standard manufacturing processes to build the largest hydraulic press in Asia. Without first-rate manufacturing, even if you have perfect design drawings and parameters, producing a qualified large hydraulic press would be extremely difficult. Therefore, we should not underestimate "Made in China." The manufacturing process often uncovers and solves countless unforeseen technical challenges—challenges that could hinder our dream of "Creating in China." Moreover, the manufacturing process itself is a form of creativity. It requires ingenuity, precision, and problem-solving skills. In short, without strong manufacturing, innovation remains just an idea.
