Idemitsu Kosan and Sony have developed a blue organic EL device with an internal quantum efficiency of 28.5%

    Idemitsu Kosan and Sony announced that they have jointly developed a blue light-emitting organic EL device and have confirmed that the internal quantum efficiency is 28.5% and the light-emitting lifetime is more than 30,000 hours. For fluorescent light emitting materials, this luminous efficiency is the highest in the world. The results will be released at the International Conference on Display Technology "SID 2008 (Society for Information Display)" in Los Angeles.
    The result is a combination of organic semiconductor element materials such as luminescent materials produced by Idemitsu Kosan and Sony's "Super Top Emission" device structure. The color purity of the luminescent color follows the CIE chromaticity coordinates (0.137, 0.065). The emitted blue light is darker than the NTSC standard value (0.14, 0.08).
    As for the luminescence lifetime (brightness half-life), the continuous lighting test under the environment of an initial brightness of 200 cd/m 2 and a temperature of 50° C. showed that the actual lighting time was 30,000 hours or more. The brightness of the unit current is 3.9 cd/A.
    From this result, it is expected to reduce the power consumption of the blue-colored organic EL element having the largest power consumption among the three red (R), green (G), and blue (B) organic EL elements, and it is expected that the organic EL television can be realized. Larger.
