Flyability’s 2020 Year in Review—7 Million Euros Raised, Mission to Chernobyl, Data Localization, 21,000+ Webinar Registrants, and More

Although 2020 was a challenging year for many, Flyability remained active and focused on innovation and growth.

Before we take a look back at what we accomplished in 2020, we’d like to extend our best wishes to all our clients, partners, prospects, and supporters around the world for a successful 2021.

7 Million Euros Raised + First U.S. Office Opened

The year began with an exciting milestone—our first U.S. office opened in Denver, Colorado. By the end of 2020, we also announced the completion of our Series C funding round, securing 7 million Euros ($8.6 million USD) to support future growth.

This expansion helped us better serve our growing customer base in the United States, while the new capital will be used to further develop indoor drones and the software that supports their use in inspections.

    Software for Data Localization

In late 2020, we launched Inspector 3.0, a powerful tool that enables inspectors to localize data on a 3D map created after an inspection flight.

Traditionally, inspectors rely on multiple data points to estimate where a defect might be located. With Inspector 3.0, this process becomes much more accurate, allowing users to pinpoint flaws directly on a sparse point cloud and guide maintenance teams to the exact location.

    Webinars, Webinars, Webinars

With the rise of remote work, webinars became a key part of learning and networking in 2020. At Flyability, we adapted quickly and hosted a series of online events to keep our community engaged.

We converted our planned User Conference into a webinar series in the spring and continued offering virtual content throughout the year. In total, we held 21 webinars with over 21,000 registrants and nearly 4,000 attendees.

Some of the most popular sessions included:

    • How to Mitigate Intrinsic Safety
    • Indoor 3D Modeling Use Cases: Photogrammetry in Action
    • How to Build and Scale a Drone Program at Your Company
    • Learn How API and ASME Experts Are Expanding Drone Inspection Applications

All recordings are available for you to watch anytime—see the full list now.

    Case Studies Highlight Real-World Impact

Throughout 2020, we published several case studies showing how our drone technology is making inspections safer and more cost-effective.

One example is the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), which used the Elios 2 to inspect a scrubber, reducing inspection time by 98% and saving 470 hours of labor. Another success story involved Marine Inspection Services, Ltd., who saved $2 million using the Elios 2 for oil tanker inspections.

These stories show the real value of our solutions. Read more about them here.

    Supporting Research and Exploration

2020 also saw us supporting some incredible exploratory missions. One notable project involved using the Elios drone to explore ice caves in Greenland, helping scientists study the effects of climate change.

Another highlight was our mission to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, where we helped scientists gather visual data from Reactor Five—a site that had been inaccessible since the 1986 disaster.

    New In-Depth Guides

We continued our initiative to create detailed guides on topics relevant to our industry. In 2020, we published eleven guides covering subjects such as Non-Destructive Testing, indoor drones, and boiler inspections.

Some of the most popular guides included:

    • NDT: What It Is, Common Methods & Industries, and How Drones Can Help
    • Indoor Drones: What They Are, What They Do, and the Different Types on the Market
    • Boiler Inspections: What They Are, How They Are Conducted, and How Drones Can Help
