Through over 20 days of rigorous technical testing, China's first domestically developed 1,500-kilowatt typhoon-resistant wind turbine has successfully been connected to the grid. This information was revealed today by a reporter visiting the Houhai Wind Farm in Xinyi Town, Xuwen County, Zhanjiang, Guangdong. Located along the eastern coast of Xuwen County, the area is known for its abundant wind resources. From the tailing angle of Longtang Town to the back beach of Xinyi Town, there are significant opportunities for large-scale wind farm development. Between the end of 2001 and August 2002, experts from the United Nations, Beijing, and Yudean Group conducted in-depth assessments, leading to the establishment of the Houbei Wind Farm in Xinyi Town as the first wind power project in western Guangdong. The 1,500-kilowatt generating unit at the Houbei Wind Farm is designed to withstand typhoon-level winds, producing 1,500 kilowatts of electricity per hour. This unit marks the first in China to adopt a Sino-foreign cooperative development model tailored to local wind conditions and climate. It features the lowest development cost, advanced technology, and the ability to endure extreme weather such as typhoons, sandstorms, and cold temperatures. Additionally, it is equipped with independent intellectual property rights, showcasing China’s growing capabilities in renewable energy technology. Local experts stated that the Xuwen wind power project will be implemented in three phases. The initial plan is to build a capacity of 300,000 to 350,000 kilowatts within five years, with a total investment of 2.5 billion yuan. As the wind power projects progress, Xuwen is expected to become the largest wind power base in Guangdong Province, contributing significantly to the region's clean energy goals and sustainable development.
