Recently, Caterpillar Marine will supply complete power units for four new ocean-going tugs designed by Ulstein Design Solutions. Each tugboat will be equipped with four 9 M 32 C propulsion engines. The machine has a rated power of 4500 bkW at 600 rpm. In addition, each tug will be equipped with three Cat C32 auxiliary engines rated at 940 ekW at 1800 rpm and will be equipped with a Cat C9 generator as an emergency power source.
All four tugs will be equipped with two AEM shaft drive generators. The machine is rated at 3,150 ekW at 1200 rpm and will be equipped with two Cat BCP1330F main propellers, two BTT625 tunnel propellers and two BTT419 tunnel propellers. For the dragging of large structures, such as offshore drilling units designed with 300 tons of bollard pull, the Ulstein SX157 tugboat can work at full capacity for 45 days without refueling.
Upon completion of the construction, these tugs will be owned and operated by ALP Maritime Services , which was recently acquired by Teekay Offshore Services.
