TI: Fully launched high power LED driver


    Texas Instruments (TI) announced a high-power multi-topology DC/DCLED driver that adjusts switching frequency and current sensing thresholds, high design flexibility and low electromagnetic interference (EMI) for automotive headlights, fog lights and general purpose Applications such as lighting. The TPS92690 is an N-channel MOSFET controller that supports low-side current sensing and supports boost or buck-boost LED driver topologies such as SEPIC, Cuk, and flyback topologies.
    The TPS92690DC/DCLED controller's rich features allow designers to significantly increase system design flexibility. For example, adjustable switching frequencies up to 2MHz, and current sense thresholds, help designers optimize LED drivers for small, high-efficiency or both. Independent Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) and analog input combined with a common dimming control method adjusts LED current or provides thermal foldback. The internal oscillator sets the converter switching frequency and can also be overdriven by an external clock, which is designed to synchronize the switching frequency with other converters. Low-side current sensing enables low EMI topologies such as Cuk converters while maintaining a single line connection for LED loads.
    The TPS92690 is part of TI's broad portfolio of LED drivers, including the LM3466, LM3409 and LM3421/3/4DC/DCLED drivers.
    Key features and benefits of the TPS92690 include compliance with AEC-Q100 automotive or commercial application standards; 4.5V to 75.0V input voltage range for boost, SEPIC, Cuk, and flyback topologies in a variety of LED applications; low side adjustable current Induction (50mV to 500mV) minimizes power loss, supports analog dimming control, undervoltage lockout (UVLO), LED overvoltage, current limit per cycle, and thermal shutdown protection to prevent faults and operational anomalies.
    The TPS92690 is available now in volume production in a 16-pin PowerPadTSSOP package and can be ordered through TI and its authorized channels.
