Recently, MANDiesel & Turbo has received orders from MeyerWerft to supply 10 diesel-powered V48/60 engines to two new cruise ships of the US cruiser Norwegian CruiseLine.
It is reported that two cruise ships will be built in MeyerWerft Papenburg in northern Germany. The shipowner Norwegian CruiseLine is a long-term customer of MAN, and its fleet is mostly powered by MAN's various engines, including the world's first common rail modification.
The new ship construction project was named "BreakawayPlus" and is expected to be completed in October 2015 and spring 2017. It is the largest ship of the Norwegian CruiseLine fleet, with approximately 4,200 passengers and 163,000 GT, which was built in 2010. The 146,000 GT Breakaway class ship "Norwegian Brekaway" and "Norwegian Getaway" are still large, but the design and innovation level is similar.
The two new ships will each be equipped with five MANV48/60CR engines with an output of 76,800 kilowatts. It uses MAN's common rail injection system to provide superior fuel economy and environmental protection.
